jhana builds intelligent and fundamental tools for the law. We are developing and piloting a series of novel legal tech interventions including India’s first AI paralegal. Join us as Legal Research Fellows to influence our model design and stylization. This is a pre-doc style role, intensive in applied jurisprudence and case law research as well as building simulacra of high-value practice and the philosophy of design for the future of work.

Top-performing Fellows may be offered return offers for full-time roles (and stock options).

Who are you?

• A superlative final-year law student (perhaps with a cemented post-grad return offer or graduate program admission in hand, seeking novelty)

• Outsized experience among your cohort in the practice in litigation or corporate law

• Published research or similar veracity of output in moot-courting, non-academic writing, etc.

What will you be doing?

• Technical evaluation, simulations, stress tests, and benchmarking of accuracy, performance, and bias in novel legal models

• Stylizing, selecting, and fine-tuning outputs of experimental legal models

• Constructing, curating, annotating, and tagging high-quality memos and documents

We are a public benefit corporation headquartered in Bangalore. We operate in rapidly changing legal systems with awareness of the stakes at hand. Our intention is to influence beneficence and alignment into the technological systems that are augmenting and replacing human institutions. Our team spans diverse identity and training, from physics and mathematics to law and public policy. We are small, fast-moving, horizontally flat, and built on collaboration between lawyers, academics, and engineers. We ship fast, and every line of code our team writes has a >0.9 expectation of making it to production.

Miscellany

• Fellowship duration of 2 months
• Fellowship remuneration of INR 50,000 per month notwithstanding perks
• Full-time work (we are agnostic to remote work, but have a preference for presence in-office at our Bangalore HQ)
