About the Role

As the Design Lead, you'll have the unique opportunity to shape both jhana's product experience and visual identity from the ground up. You'll work directly with founders, engineers, growth, and product teams to define our design philosophy, establish processes, and build a foundation for scaling the design team. This is a rare opportunity to own design end-to-end at a rapidly growing startup, with a clear path to building and leading your own team as we expand.

The day-to-day

• Define jhana's visual identity across product and brand.

• Collaborate with founders, engineers, growth, and product teams to define our design philosophy, establish processes, and build a foundation for scaling the design team.

• Implement web designs and ensure pixel-perfect execution.

• Build and maintain our design system, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints.

• Lead the end-to-end design process from user research and wireframing to high-fidelity prototypes and implementation.

• Building ground-up component design for new features.

• Support the product team with visual assets and illustrations as needed.

• Design marketing collateral, including presentations, social media content, website graphics, and event materials.

• Create compelling visual narratives for complex legal and technical concepts.

• Simplify and refine existing features/interfaces.

Skills & Qualifications

Required

• 5+ years of design experience across functions.

• Strong understanding of fundamental design principles.

• Proven ability to sketch from scratch with minimal inspiration.

• Familiarity with best UI/UX practices and confidence in establishing new practices in uncharted territories based on first principles thinking and user research.

• Expert proficiency in design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and/or equivalent).

• Ability to design across multiple mediums (digital, print, web).

• Knowledge of modern design and production workflows.

• Ability to establish processes and documentation.

• You can clearly articulate design decisions to key stakeholders.

• You’re creative-minded and intensely customer-focused. You care about design all the way from a strategic level down to design details and getting the pixels right.

• Basic understanding of front-end development.

Added Bonuses

• Motion design and animation capabilities.

• Experience with After Effects, Blender, and/or equivalent.

• SDE I+ experience with front-end development.

Miscellany

The expected compensation range is INR 10-15 lakhs per annum and may include equity. Compensation is negotiable based on levels and mutual excitement.

This role will start ASAP and requires in-person presence for at least 4 days of the week at our Bangalore HQ.
